O my castle, from Fontainebleau to Vaux-le-Vicomte

Only an hour’s drive separates Paris from two of French royalty’s most impressive and vital castles at Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte.

The day begins in the sumptuous city of Fontainebleau, in time to François I where you will explore the only royal castle inhabited without interruption for seven centuries! Residence of French rulers from François I to Napoleon III, this richly appointed castle will amaze you with its unique collections and pieces, such as its famous horseshoe staircase or the throne of Napoleon I. Take your time to stroll through the sublime gardens surrounding the castle before a delighted lunch in a charming local bistrot.

You will then head to the splendid castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte, which inspired Louis XIV to build Versailles. With the help of an audio guide, discover this masterpiece of 17th-century French classical architecture, designed by three talented artists: Charles Le Brun, Louis Le Vau and André Le Nôtre.

Return to Paris around 5 pm; arrival in Paris around 6:30 pm.
